Donnie Williams & Park Place

Webpage: http://www.chumpchange.com
Location: Berkeley, California 94703, USA
Description: The Song "HIGHER POWER" is rapidly being called the "National Anthem of Recovery", born at the bottom of addiction and has already saved many lives. Play it and save another life TODAY!
Biography: DONNIE WILLIAMS BIO -- Is there Life after American Idol ? You Bet Donnie Williams has been creating quite a stir around the San Francisco/Oakland Bay Area over the past couple years with his dynamic performances as lead vocalist of the band Park Place. With the release of his debut CD, Just Like Magic on Chump Change Records, his reputation is sure to spread far and wide among lovers of world-class soul singing. The East Bay Express, in its 2008 Best of the East Bay issue, named the Baton Rouge, Louisiana-born Williams "Best R&B or Soul Singer." He sings, the newspaper noted, "in ringing, remarkably pliant high-tenor tones, often executing long sustains that he follows, without stopping to take a breath, with strings of pitch-perfect, rapid-fire melismata." And the San Francisco Chronicle called him "a soul stylist of the first order." "It's phenomenal," Park Place producer Paul Tillman Smith says of Williams' voice. "He's like a musician, the way he hears. Nobody has the kind of control and ideas that Donnie has." "He sings my stuff better than anybody I've ever known," adds Smith, whose compositions have been recorded in years past by such singers as Phyllis Hyman, Jean Carne, Lady Bianca, Freddie Hughes, Derrick Hughes, Lenny Williams, Rosie Gaines, and the late Prince vocalist Bonnie Boyer. Williams' soaring tenor is featured on 12 of the 15 tracks on Just Like Magic. Smith wrote seven of the disc's songs, including the title tune and the inspirational "Higher Power," and Williams wrote three. Terrell Williams, Donnie's younger sister and Park Place compatriot, leads on two selections and duets with her brothers on "Miracles." Guest vocalist LaToya London, who, like Donnie, was a 2004 American Idol finalist, leads on "Send My Baby Back" and duets with Donnie on "Just Like Magic." Multi-instrumentalist Nelson Braxton and Smith's longtime associate Norman Connors served as co-producers of the CD, which boasts an all-star Bay Area cast of players that includes keyboardists Kev Choice and Sundra Manning, guitarist Carl Lockett, and drummer Brian Collier. ""Each day I struggle simply for my family. Go to work every day and still have no money. Living in this world, it gets harder and harder. Waiting for my victory to come today and tomorrow," Williams sings in glowing tenor tones reminiscent of both Donny Hathaway and Ronald Isley on "Running," the self-penned mid-tempo ballad that opens Just Like Magic. Later in the tune, however, after addressing the trials and travails of life, he cries out, "A change gonna come, yes it is, yes it is," reflecting a Sam Cooke-like optimism. A similar sense of hope permeates the highly inspirational "Higher Power." Positivity also flows through Williams' urgent readings of the love songs "Always Be," "Given You Everything," "Feels So Right," "Show Me Yours," "Splashing," and "Remember the Day." All are filled with sensually cascading curlicues, stunning leaps of register, and breathtaking sustains. Shades of Stevie Wonder and Lenny Williams crop up here and there, yet it quickly becomes obvious that Williams is a strikingly original stylist in the classic soul love-man tradition. Born on July 26, 1983, Williams comes from a family of vocalists. His mother, Gladys Williams, performed in clubs around Baton Rouge with legendary soul R&B singer-pianist Bobby Powell and with blues singer and harmonica blower Raful Neal. Donnie' s father, Eddie McQuarter, is a gospel singer. And the renowned R&B-turned-gospel singer Beau Williams is a cousin. Williams made his public performing debut at age 11 at Mount Wade Baptist Church in Baton Rouge with a rendition of the Winans' "He Set Me Free," "I didn't even know the words," he admits. "We just faked it and went all the way through it. The congregation loved it. It made me feel good. It kinda gave me that push, and I started getting involved in the musical activities in school." At school, he and his sister Terrell, who is three years his junior, won first place in a talent show singing Bobby Brown and Whitney Houston's "Something in Common." "The trophy was huge," he recalls. He made his nightclub debut at age 15 singing Sam Cooke's "A Change Is Gonna Come" at Raful Neal's blues bar in Baton Rouge. "The place went crazy," he says. "That feeling made me know that this is what I wanna do. I just liked the feeling of everybody enjoying my music." Before relocating to the Bay Area city of Livermore in 2000 with his mother and his four siblings, Williams made his recording debut singing hooks on a CD by the Baton Rouge hip-hop group Smoke Click. In Oakland, he did likewise for the hip-hop crew Big Bang Theory, with whom he performed locally, including opening a show for E-40. Williams was lubing cars at Wal-Mart in Livermore in 2004 when two coworkers overheard him crooning as he worked and suggested he try out of for American Idol. One even offered to drive him to Pasadena for the audition. They arrived on a Thursday, and Williams sang "A Song for You" on Saturday for judges Simon Cowell and Randy Jackson. "You're better than all the people we have heard throughout all the seasons,"' Williams recalls Jackson telling him. Even Cowell's take on his singing was positive, and Williams was put through to Hollywood. Williams made it into the top 32, along with Fantasia Barrino, Jennifer Hudson, and his friend LaToya London, and seemed a sure shot for the top 12. But one night before he was slated to return to Hollywood for the next segment of the reality show, he was invited to a celebratory party thrown by friends. He had too much to drink and was arrested on the way home for driving under the influence. News of the arrest traveled fast, and the producers of American Idol kicked him off the show and replaced him with George Huff. Williams was devastated. "I didn’t even go to work for a couple days," he explains. "My girlfriend at the time and my family and my friends really pulled me through it." The singer quit drinking. His sobriety is reflected in the ballad "Higher Power" on Just Like Magic and particularly in the anti-substance abuse message of the video for the song. "The lyrics have helped give me guidance to stay focused," he says. Williams credits Stevie Wonder and Donny Hathaway as influences and also includes gospel singers Marvin Winans and Dorinda Clark-Cole among his favorites. "Coming up, singing in church and in school, people used to tell me I sounded like Donny Hathaway," Williams says. "I was like, 'Who's Donny Hathaway?' I'd never really heard him. I'd heard 'Where Is the Love,' but I thought that was Stevie Wonder singing with Roberta Flack "When I learned that Stevie was influenced by Donny Hathaway, I was like, 'Oh, OK.' I could even hear it in Stevie's voice. In the beginning, he was straight Stevie. Then he went to 'All in Love Is Fair.' He started holding that note and using vibrato like Hathaway." Like Hathaway, Williams integrates his natural tenor tones and his high falsetto in an effortless manner. It took him years of practice to perfect the technique. "My mom used to teach me," he says, "'Whenever you don't think you can get something, just keep doing it over and over.'" Donnie took his mother's advice, and now, with the release of Just Like Magic, his astonishing vocal prowess is on display for all the world to savor.

Location: Durban, KZN, South Africa
Description: A truly appealing mix of gospel, jazz, soulful ballads, a touch of pop and a hint of Africa, engaging love, pain and destiny - music to touch your soul.
Biography: I was born in Pietermaritzburg, into a very musical family, where both parents were musical. My mother was a church choir conductor, she sang in the family group and she played the guitar. I started singing on stage, with my mother, when I was about 3yrs and I joined my mother's youth choir at the age of 5. I started school at the age of 4, at Nichols Lower primary, went on to Maritzburg Christian School, Pelham and Pietermaritzburg Girl's High School. After high School, I went to University of Durban - Westville, where I did my BCom Law degree.

I have always known that I wanted to sing for the rest of my life. The day I knew for sure, was when I was singing at church and people’s response was so warming, that confirmed it. I grew up listening to a whole range of people and I can not say who specifically inspires me.

I listen mainly to gospel and jazz and my current favourites are Ernie Smith, Jonathan Butler, Sibongile Khumalo, Malaika, etc. I practice, and sing along to every song I know. My best performance was at my friends wedding and my worst was another friend ‘s wedding. The most interesting place where I have performed was at the first lady's party. The one thing that made me decide to finally follow my dream, was my passion to inspire and to connect with people’s emotions. I believe that music is medicine to sooth souls.

I am a born again Christian and believe my music is part of God's purpose for my life.

Boz

Webpage: http://www.bozmusic.com
Location: Altamonte Springs, Florida, USA
Description: Boz's music has been compared by his peers to his mentor career artists: Sting, Phil Collins, Don Henley, Bruce Hornsby, Bono (U2) and others, and contains somewhat of a spiritual, positive, and decent message.
Biography: Boz was originally the front man for the Progressive Rock group " Us " whose record Oblivion was released on Ravenbourne Records/Labels Enabled in 2004 and continues to do very well in the UK and in Europe.

Us, formerly The Chosen Few (TCF) toured throughout the Southeast United States from 1997-2005 playing mainly festivals, upscale clubs, and corporate events: Anheuser Busch, IBM, General Motors etc. with tremendous success and positive reviews of their 16 piece show (which included female vocalists and full horn section!). "We worked on some HUGE corporate gigs with the likes of Sting, Cheap Trick, Hootie and The Blowfish, Sugar Ray, Steve Allen (three weeks before he passed away, unfortunately)and so many more, we were very blessed to be in the Orlando Convention Band music scene", say's Boz.

Boz also says: "I thank God for that time of my life. Great players, great music and we were always playing; I mean sometimes 3-4 times per week! We made a lot of people happy with our music, whether it was cover and/or original music."

With this solo record, Boz's music has been hailed very spiritual but certainly not charismatic and/or Christian.

"I call it human . I try and write songs that can move people in some way or another, from a human aspect. I tend to focus in on one subject and do my best to learn as much as I can about it; in order to write more passionately. My hope is to connect with the listener somehow and have this music inspire them in some way.

My influences have always been great career artists like Peter Gabriel, Bruce Hornsby, Sting, Phil Collins, Mick Hucknall (Simply Red), Mike Rutherford (Genesis), Don Henley, Seal, Paul Carrack, Steely Dan (to name a few). I tend to stray a bit to the obscure. I think many of you will hear those influences in this music.

We, (David Mikeal and I) wrote some really nice radio-friendly tunes on this new record ( Karma Knows ) and some other very personal "album" tunes that I am very fond of. In fact, I love all the tunes and certainly hope those listening to Karma Knows will too!

Boz continues to work with other songwriters in the Florida area (and beyond) and plans to complete the Boz LIVE on I-Drive project in Orlando , and tour in 2009 to support Karma Knows.

Press Release:
Boz, the artist that has been compared to career male vocalists/artists such as: Sting, Phil Collins, Don Henley, Peter Gabriel and others by music critics around the nation, is currently climbing the AC (Adult Contemporary) and AAA (Singer-Songwriter) charts with his 1st single from Karma Knows, “Home With You”.

“I’m very passionate about Home With You as it really speaks to the heart of all of us, because ultimately, we all really want to be “home “ with the ones we love whether it be in our hearts or our actual, physical homes. The song is magical in a way as it captures the true essence of what we all yearn for”. Watch for Boz’s “Fields of Green” to light up the airways in the next few months as well. “Truthfully, I sat down and thought well, Sting has his Fields of Gold, Bruce (Hornsby) has his Fields of Gray, well then Boz is going to have his Fields of Green. These guys are my mentors, I’m forever in debt to them, I wanted to write and record something in that caliber and I honestly feel we; David Mikeal and I, accomplished that with Fields of Green.

Boz’s incredible showcase project: Boz LIVE on I-Drive is slated for 2009 in Orlando, Florida and will be one of the Southeast’s most incredible concert events, showcasing the songs of career artists and their incredibly passionate “human” songs. “The more obscure work these career artist’s have done is the real message and core of who they are, and we plan to re-create and showcase their material with video and imagery unlike anything anyone has ever seen before! We are planning a warm, genuine, exciting concert event for all ages, races, creeds, religions, etc… and will hopefully do something decent in this tumultuous world of ours.”

Barbara Telecsan performed at the Oxford Lane Public Library on July 10, 2007 and provided an enjoyable hour of entertainment. Her renditions of standards and popular songs from the 1940s through the 80s on piano were warmly received by the audience. Barbara Telecsan conducts herself in a professional manner, communicates well, and is easy to work with. I recommend her to any organization looking for musical entertainment within her area of specialty.

At a recent funeral at a large church, Barbara Telecsan was asked to play the piano during a 2 hour visitation prior to the service. Barbara did an outstanding job in providing appropriate music for those 2 hours. The family was very pleased and her fee was very reasonable. African Gospel Rhythms

Location: Falmouth, ME, USA
Description: African Gospel Rhythms "Project Maine" CD represents a blending of cultures, musical styles and has brought a spirit of praise and worship from Africa to Maine. Many of the songs on the CD are traditional songs from Zambia, Rwanda, Zimbabwe and Congo
Biography: Mission Statement

We are committed and dedicated to be true worshipers of Christ by uniting people from different nations, tribes, races and denominations through multi-lingual prayer, praise, worship and the skillful use of musical instruments. Vision

Our vision is to be part of the team that will take the church back to its fundamentals through teaching Christians how to value practical prayer, praise and worship believing that, that is what will bring about restoration of the church and a genuine leadership. Motivation

Over two hundred years ago, American missionaries responded to the command of our Lord Jesus, “Go into all the world and preach the gospel”. Due to their obedience some found themselves in the far off parts of the world, including Africa, the former Dark Continent. The American missionaries told our ancestors to give up on their idols, witchcraft, ancestral worship, polygamy and all the other evils that existed in the land. The American Missionaries planted the seed of purity in the former Dark Continent. 200 years later that seed matured and bore fruit as many as the sand of the sea. We are part of that seed and God has brought us back to the land of our spiritual fathers, to remind the modern Americans how much sacrifice the forefathers paid for the sake of the gospel. They risked their lives in a land full of malaria, cholera, wild animals even unfriendly people then. Now we are back in the USA to remind everybody that your forefathers told us that it was wrong to have idols, today Americans are worshipping their money, wealth, selves etc. Today nobody wants to talk about purity, holiness, righteousness, godliness and walk in the footsteps of Christ. In case you forgot we are here to tell you that Jesus Christ is Lord of all. One day he shall return to take his church. Are you ready?
